CELEBRATING AUSTRALIA’S RURAL WOMEN
Senator the Hon Michaelia Cash
Australia’s regional, rural and remote women play an essential role in enhancing food security, eradicating rural poverty and improving agricultural and regional development.
On the International Day of Rural Women, Minister for Women, Senator the Hon Michaelia Cash, applauded Australia’s rural women and said they are key to the success of their communities.
“Women make enormous contributions to the development of regional communities throughout Australia and too often don’t get the recognition they deserve,” Minister Cash said.
“The Turnbull Government is committed to investing in the leadership and skills of rural and regional women so they can continue to bring about positive change in their communities.”
The Turnbull Government is supporting rural and regional women through the Women’s Leadership and Development Strategy grants program and the National Rural Women’s Coalition, which is a platform for women living in rural, regional and remote Australia to have their voices heard by Government.
Sport and sporting clubs are the lifeblood of many towns throughout country Australia and through the Australian Sports Commission’s Women Leaders in Sport program, to date, 44 individuals and 14 organisations from regional or remote parts of Australia have been supported.
The Government has also partnered with the National Association of Women in Operations to provide women’s leadership programs to regional women, including professional development, via live streaming.
