ESSENTIAL PROCEDURES EXCLUDED FROM PRIVATE HEALTH
CATHERINE KING MP
The number of private health policies with an exclusion has soared to more than 2,000,000 under Malcolm Turnbull, leaving Australians increasingly caught out when they go to use their cover.
New data reveals that since 2014, the number of policies with an exclusion has soared by 65%.
This is more evidence that Malcolm Turnbull’s private health changes are a complete failure - the Government’s changes do absolutely nothing to address this growth in exclusions and they will fail to act on junk policies.
With Australians paying more and more for their private health insurance, not being covered for essential procedures when they go to use their cover is just another blow.
Acting on exclusions such as pregnancy is essential to making sure private health insurance remains valuable to Australians - which is why the Government’s broken promise to act on junk policies is such a huge blow.
Less than 48 hours after the Government’s big announcement, their rhetoric has completely collapsed - they refused to guarantee lower premiums and private health insurers are distancing themselves from claims of savings.
Malcolm Turnbull’s private health changes do absolutely nothing to help Australians who pay the most for private health insurance and use their coverage the most - older Australians and families.
