ACTING PRIME MINISTER LEAVES TASMANIA’S GST SHARE IN LIMBO
THE HON. JULIE COLLINS MP

Tasmanians should be deeply concerned by Acting Prime Minister Julie Bishop’s comments that the GST distribution should change and is at the mercy of state premiers.

“It is up to the states’ Premiers .. it is so important for the state premiers to come together and work out a way to fairly distribute the GST. There have been a number of proposals put forward.”

Acting Prime Minister Julie Bishop, Press Conference, 31 October 2017

It is disgraceful that the Acting Prime Minister has not assured Tasmanians that our fair share of the GST is safe.

Any responsible Federal Government would make absolutely clear our state will not lose out.

Turnbull and his Liberals have clearly given up on protecting our state’s GST share and now we stand to lose billions.

The Tasmanian Liberal Senators must immediately make clear whether or not they agree with the Acting Prime Minister’s comments.

Any change to Tasmania’s share of the GST would have a devastating impact on our state’s Budget and our already underfunded hospitals and schools.

It is clear the Tasmanian Liberal Senators have no credibility and no influence in Canberra.

They have rolled over and accepted Malcolm Turnbull's huge cuts to our hospitals and schools and now they could let our state be hit again.
