International study and research grants to expand student’s expertise

More than 3400 students and academics will get the opportunity to pursue overseas study and research, thanks to two Turnbull Government initiatives.

 

Minister for Education and Training Simon Birmingham today announced the recipients of the Turnbull Government 2017 Endeavour Mobility Grants and the Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships which will provide support to Australian students to study and research overseas and for overseas students to do the same in Australia.

 

“These programs provide students and researchers with the opportunity to experience study in countries around the globe and overseas students with a chance to experience Australia’s world-class education system,” Minister Birmingham said.

 

“Endeavour opens doors for Australian and international students and fosters closer links between Australian and overseas tertiary institutions.”

 

Minister Birmingham said under the Endeavour Mobility Grants program, 62 tertiary institutions will be offered funding to support more than 2500 students across 66 locations around the world, and for over 200 international students to study in Australia.

 

“Students will be given real world practical study experience to assist with their qualifications and help them build global skills and perspectives,” Minister Birmingham said

 

“The mobility grants support undergraduate, postgraduate and vocational education and training students gain invaluable study experience through a variety of projects in countries including the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Malaysia and Hong Kong.”

 

Minister Birmingham said the recipients of the Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships program will also strengthen the connections between Australian and overseas tertiary institutions.

 

“Almost 700 students will be given the opportunity under these scholarships and fellowships to study abroad in a wide range of fields from medical science, law and public health to mechanical engineering and criminology,” Minister Birmingham said.

 

Under a long-standing partnership the Australian Government and the Cheung Kong Group also provide students and researchers from Australia and Asia with the opportunity to study overseas through the Endeavour Cheung Kong Research Fellowship and the Endeavour Cheung Kong Student Exchange Program.

 

“I congratulate the recipients of these grants, scholarships and fellowships, and I look forward to hearing how they’ve made the most of the invaluable knowledge and experience they will gain from these opportunities.”
