LABOR WELCOMES RELEASE OF LGBTI AGEING AND AGED CARE STRATEGY REVIEW

Labor welcomes the release of the Review of the National Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) Ageing and Aged Care Strategy.

 

The LGBTI Ageing and Aged Care Strategy was initiated by the previous Labor Government under the Living Longer Living Better reforms and forms a key part of the Aged Care Diversity Framework.

 

Labor remains deeply committed to the aims of the Diversity Framework and calls on the Government to use the findings of this Review to inform the development of the new Framework.

 

Older Australians should feel safe, welcome and respected when accessing services they need.

 

The Review recognises the strong support for the principles and goals of the LGBTI Strategy but more must be done to practically support diversity in aged care.

 

Labor acknowledges the input of the many individuals and organisations that contributed to the development of the Review and the implementation of the Strategy.  

 

The Turnbull Government must properly respond to the growing pile of aged care reports, reviews and strategies that it has so far failed to act on.
