WINNERS CELEBRATED AT NATIONAL DISABILITY AWARDS

Labor congratulates the winners and finalists recognised at the National Disability Awards in Canberra last night.
The National Disability Awards is one of the key events celebrating International Day of People with Disability.
The winner of this year’s Lesley Hall Lifetime Achievement Award is Sue Salthouse, a leading advocate for change with extensive experience in promoting equality for women and the full inclusion of people with disabilities in society, including as Chair of Women with Disabilities ACT.
Among the other winners was Catia Malaquias, co-founder of the Global Alliance for Disability in Media which she helped launch in 2016 at the United Nations in Geneva. Since then she’s been involved in the inclusive advertising campaigns of Kmart and Target.
Also recognised was the University of Sydney’s Centre for Disability Studies uni 2 beyond initiative, that supports people with intellectual disability to experience university life.
