New Agriculture Minister meets Australian Dairy Farmers, inspects GrainCorp terminal
David Littleproud MP
Newly sworn in Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources, David Littleproud, has made his first visit to Victoria, meeting dairy farmers in the state's West, as well as touring the GrainCorp terminal in Geelong.
Minister Littleproud was sworn in just before Christmas and has hit the ground running. The Minister today met with Australian Dairy Farmers in Purrumbete, where they discussed the key issues in the industry, including Murray Goulburn.
Minister Littleproud also inspected the GrainCorp terminal in north Geelong today.
“It was great to sit around the kitchen table with real farmers and talk about real issues," Minister Littleproud said.
“I did that in my old job as an agri-lender and I'm loving doing it again as the Agriculture Minister. There's nothing like an honest face-to-face chat and a firm handshake.
“Dairy is an industry which touches almost every Australian, through the milk on their cereal or the cheese on their toast. The dairy industry is under-appreciated for what it delivers to our nation.
“I had a great chat with the Australian Dairy Farmers and I look forward to dealing with them in the future.
“Most Australians also consume grain regularly - in their cereal or toast, for example. I was rapt to tour GrainCorp's facility.
“I think Australian agriculture is in for a big year. There's a lot to be positive about.”
