VISIT TO INDIA AND SINGAPORE
SENATOR THE HON PENNY WONG
The Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs Senator Penny Wong and Shadow Treasurer Chris Bowen will travel to New Delhi this week to attend the 4th annual Australia India Leadership Dialogue.
The Australia India Leadership Dialogue, which will also be attended by Tasmanian Labor Senator Lisa Singh, enables members of parliament, business leaders, distinguished academics and leading journalists to come together and explore opportunities to strengthen the relationship between our two great nations.
India is one of the world’s fastest growing major economies, the most populous democracy, home to over a billion people and an important strategic and trading partner for Australia.
India is now our second biggest market for education services and offers huge potential for Australian trade.
At a time of increasing disruption and uncertainty, India is also playing an important role in maintaining regional order and security.
The strength of the delegation highlights Labor’s strong commitment to Australia’s relationship with India at a time of great change in our region.
Following the dialogue, Mr Bowen will visit the important Indian state of Gujarat after the dialogue for meetings with the Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and other bilateral visits.
Senator Wong will travel to Singapore for meetings with senior government ministers, and to deliver a major address to the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy on Wednesday on “Peace and Prosperity in a Time of Disruption”.
