APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO THE AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT FINANCIAL LITERACY BOARD

The Minister for Revenue and Financial Services, the Hon Kelly O’Dwyer MP, has today announced reappointments to the Australian Government Financial Literacy Board (the Board).
Mr Paul Clitheroe AM has been reappointed as the part-time Chair of the Board for a further two year period, and Air Commodore Robert Brown AM, Ms Elaine Henry OAM and Ms Fiona Guthrie AM have been reappointed as part-time members of the Board for a further two year period.
Mr Clitheroe is a director of ipac securities and one of Australia’s leading media commentators on financial issues. Through his extensive experience in financial literacy, Mr Clitheroe provides valuable guidance as the Chair of the Board.
Air Commodore Brown is the Independent Chairman of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) Financial Services Centre. Ms Henry has been a leader in the community sector for the past 25 years including as the Chair of the Australian Research Alliance for Children and Youth and the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Ms Guthrie is the Executive Director of Financial Counselling Australia, the peak body for financial counsellors in Australia. All three members bring considerable experience and knowledge of financial literacy and consumer policy to the Board.
On his commencement as the ASIC Chair on 1 February 2018, Mr James Shipton will become an ex officio member of the Board.
The Australian Government Financial Literacy Board is a non-statutory body that provides independent and strategic guidance to Government and ASIC on financial literacy issues. These appointments will ensure that the Board continues to have a high level of skill and experience to call on in fulfilling its important role.
