IF MALCOLM TURNBULL WAS SERIOUS ABOUT INNOVATION HE’D STOP HIS EDUCATION CUTS
THE HON TANYA PLIBERSEK MP
Instead of treating today’s innovation report as a big wake up call, Malcolm Turnbull has doubled-down on his damaging education cuts. He is ripping $17 billion from schools, about $3 billion from TAFE and vocational education, and more than $2 billion from unis.
Malcolm Turnbull’s idea of innovation in education is simply to cut, and that will send Australia backwards.
Mr Turnbull’s school cuts will see our children miss out on extra help with maths, science, and computer skills – the skills they’ll need for a lifetime of success.
Mr Turnbull’s cuts to TAFE and vocational education mean Australians will find it harder to prepare for the high-tech, high-skilled jobs of the future. We’ve already lost about 140,000 apprenticeships and traineeships on the Liberals’ watch.
Mr Turnbull’s higher education cuts could see up to 10,000 students miss out on a uni place, and set-back important discoveries and research breakthroughs.
Malcolm Turnbull can continue to ramble on about innovation, but the truth is his policies do nothing but stifle it.
