LABOR’S NEEDS-BASED SCHOOL FUNDING WORKING: PRODUCTIVITY COMMISSION REPORT
THE HON TANYA PLIBERSEK MP
A Productivity Commission report, released today, proves Labor’s school funding policy was working to give extra help to Australia’s neediest schools.
The report shows funding was being directed to disadvantaged public schools.
Labor’s policy would have been even more successful if the Federal Liberals hadn’t allowed state and territory Liberal governments to rip money out of schools.
Despite clear evidence Labor’s school funding policy was working, Malcolm Turnbull dumped it last year.
Instead, Mr Turnbull has introduced a new unfair funding regime that cuts $17 billion from schools, hitting public schools hardest.
Malcolm Turnbull should be ashamed that he scrapped a policy that was turning things around.
The Liberals’ school cuts mean fewer teachers, less one-on-one attention for our children, and less help with the basics like reading, writing, and maths.
At the same time as Malcolm Turnbull is cutting schools, he’s making life easier for millionaires and multinationals by giving them tax cuts.
Mr Turnbull thinks looking after his mates at the top end of town is more important than giving our kids a decent education. His priorities are all wrong.
Labor will stop Malcolm Turnbull’s cuts to schools – we’ll restore every dollar the Liberals have cut.
We will make sure the neediest schools get the most funding, in the fastest time.
Australians have a clear choice - Labor, which will invest in their kids’ schools, or the Liberals who will rip money away.
Only Labor will help parents get the education they want for their kids.
