LABOR: PUBLIC SCHOOLS HIT HARD BY LIBERALS’ CUTS
THE HON TANYA PLIBERSEK MP
New data from the Parliamentary Budget Office and the National Catholic Education Commission shows just how bad Malcolm Turnbull’s funding regime will be for public schools and low-fee Catholic schools.
The new figures detail the difference between Labor’s school funding plan and the Liberals’ new regime in 2018 and 2019.
Labor has always said that Mr Turnbull’s cuts hit public schools extremely hard.

Public schools cop a massive 86 per cent of the cuts.

Low-fee Catholic schools get 12 per cent of the cuts, while independent schools, including some elite high fee schools, get a cut of just 2 per cent.

Malcolm Turnbull calls his new funding regime fair.  What a joke.  Our new analysis proves it’s anything but.
Under Mr Turnbull, the children and the schools that need the most help, get most of his cuts.  It’s just not fair.
Labor will stop Malcolm Turnbull’s cuts to schools.  We’ll restore every dollar the Liberals have cut.
Labor believes Australian kids deserve the world’s best schools, with the world’s best teaching, not the Liberals’ cuts.
Mr Turnbull’s school cuts mean fewer teachers, less one-on-one attention for our kids, and less help with the basics like reading, writing, and maths.
At the same time as Malcolm Turnbull is cutting schools, he’s making life easier for big business and millionaires by giving them tax cuts.
Mr Turnbull thinks looking after his mates at the top end of town is more important than giving kids a decent education.  His priorities are all wrong.
Australians have a clear choice: Labor, that will invest in their kids’ schools, or the Liberals who will rip money away.
Only Labor will help parents get the education they want for their kids.
