TURNBULL REWARDS EXECUTIVES OF DISGRACED ABCC WITH PAYRISES WHILE WORKERS SUFFER
BRENDAN O’CONNOR MP
Reports today that while everyday Australian workers can’t get a pay rise, the Turnbull government gifted top ABCC executives pay increases of 14 per cent, are staggering. This decision is even more of an outrage compared to 1 per cent pay rise given to the non-executive agency staff.
At the same time that Turnbull has frozen or capped pay rises for public servants at two per cent and has slashed penalty rates for low paid workers, the highest paid executives in his anti-worker ABCC got a massive pay rise.
Unbelievably, the pay rises came in the same year that the ABCC reported an operating loss of more than $3million. How out of touch is Turnbull?
These excessive executive pay-rises also occurred in the same year that ABCC Commissioner, Nigel Hadgkiss, was forced to resign for breaking the very laws that he was charged to uphold.
Minister Cash needs to explain to the Australian public what justification the agency had for these excessive pay rises.
