BOMBER COMMAND SERVICEMEN HONOURING THOSE WHO SERVED BESIDE THEM
AMANDA RISHWORTH MP
Labor welcomes the news overnight that those men who served in Bomber Command will be given the opportunity to visit the United Kingdom for the official opening of the International Bomber Command Centre and Memorial Spire.
Supporting those men to visit the centre in the United Kingdom will allow them the pay tribute to the sacrifice of the men they served alongside.
The Second World War took a great tole on our country.
We sent 500,000 overseas and would mourn 40,000 dead.
One in five of our combat deaths during the Second World War was from Bomber Command; that is over 4050 Australians in air and ground crews.
Given their service and sacrifice, it is right the Minister has listened to calls from the community to allow those men who served as part of Bomber Command and given them the opportunity to attend the official opening at the Centre.
