LABOR TO EXTEND THE NUMBER 11 TRAM
BILL SHORTEN MP
Ged Kearney and Bill Shorten will deliver $40 million for an extension to the number 11 tram, providing better public transport services to Melbourne’s booming northern suburbs.
Labor will extend the number 11 route north to the end of Gilbert Road in Reservoir, ending years of frustration for residents in the northern end of Batman.
“The people of Batman are passionate about improving public transport – I've heard it again and again as I’ve been doorknocking, calling and meeting voters. I’m proud that Labor is committing to extending the number 11 tram to provide more public transport options where they're needed," Ged Kearney said.
“As more people and families call Batman home we need to make sure everyone can access local services, that’s why extending the number 11 tram line is so important," Ms Kearney said.
The Leader of the Opposition Bill Shorten said that only Labor can be trusted to invest in and deliver major public transport projects, like the number 11 tram extension.
“Labor is the party of public transport – we plan for it, we fund it, we build it,” Mr Shorten said.
“Ged has been telling me why this extension is so important. She knows what services people in Batman need, and she’s getting results already.
“This is exactly what she’ll do as the local member. She’ll listen, she’ll stand up for you, and she’ll deliver real change.
“Electing Ged to Batman takes us one step closer to a Labor government in Canberra – which will mean better public transport, better schools and better health services for Batman residents.”
Thousands of residents living in Reservoir will benefit from this project with shorter travel times, easier access to public transport, improved access to service and increased quality of life.
Whilst other political parties make promises on public transport which will never be delivered, Labor stands on its record.
The former Labor Government invested more in urban public transport than all previous governments combined since Federation.
Only Ged Kearney, Bill Shorten and Labor will deliver an extension of the number 11 tram.
