GAS PRICES RISE IN SPITE OF TURNBULL’S HANDSHAKE
THE HON MARK BUTLER MP
Another day and further evidence Malcolm Turnbull’s handshake deal with the gas companies has failed to secure affordable gas prices.
As reported in The Australian this morning, Sydney and Melbourne wholesale gas prices have risen 40 per cent since last year.
With analysis of Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) data showing Sydney experienced record seasonal spot gas prices in 2017 in all but two months.
As manufacturers and households struggle to pay their gas bill the only person responsible is Malcolm Turnbull.
His failure to listen to Labor and his own department’s advice and pull the trigger on LNG export controls means households are paying the price, and thousands of manufacturing jobs are on the line.
