Visit to New Caledonia
MINISTER FOR INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND THE PACIFIC SENATOR THE HON CONCETTA FIERRAVANTI–WELLS
I will attend the Conference of the Pacific Community in New Caledonia from 26 to 28 July 2017.
This year marks the 70th Anniversary of the establishment of the Pacific Community.
During the conference, my Pacific counterparts and I will discuss avenues for greater cooperation in support of regional economic growth, resilience and security.
Australia is well placed to share our experience on the conference theme of ‘Innovative Partnerships for Sustainable Development’.
The Pacific Community is the region’s pre-eminent scientific and technical organisation whose membership encompasses 22 Pacific island countries and territories, as well as Australia, France, New Zealand and the United States. Australia is a significant contributor.
I will also hold high-level talks with the Government of New Caledonia on enhancing our strong bilateral relationship.
In the capital, Noumea, I will visit Baudoux College which is trialling the inclusion of Australian content in the French Baccalaureate.
