FEDERAL LABOR WILL INVEST $1 MILLION IN TAFE WELDING FACILITY
SENATOR THE HON DOUG CAMERON
A Shorten Labor Government will invest $1million to establish a state-of-the-art welding facility at Regency TAFE in South Australia.
This commitment forms part of Federal Labor’s Building TAFE for the Future Fund, a $100 million investment to build TAFE’s capacity to meet the skills needs of local communities and industries.
The TAFE-owned-and-operated facility will ensure that the very high technical skills required for welding in the defence industries and ship building are available to South Australian companies and workers.
The facility will include ten augmented reality simulators and five welding training systems for upskilling and training trade qualified welder and workers in transition, including automotive workers who have been displaced by the closure of the vehicle manufacturing industry.
“Workers can expect nationally and internationally recognised qualifications that enhance their existing trade skills, Shadow Minister for Skills TAFE and Apprenticeships, Doug Cameron said.
“This opens up excellent opportunities for them in the defence industries – particularly in the construction of submarines.
“This state-of-the-art technology will ensure that South Australia and South Australian workers have access to the highest level of training to guarantee our skill base domestically and internationally. This will improve our global competitiveness.”
A Wetherill Labor government will invest a further $100 million into South Australia’s skill development system and are guaranteeing 70 percent of funding to TAFE.
