PROMOTING GENDER EQUALITY ACROSS OUR REGION
Kelly O’Dwyer MP
The Turnbull Government is working with our neighbours to promote gender equality across our region.
“I am proud to announce that Melbourne will host the first Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) – Australia Women, Peace and Security high-level dialogue from 17-19 April 2018,” the Minister for Women, the Hon Kelly O’Dwyer MP said.
“The high-level dialogue will focus on the intersection of regional security challenges, human rights and the Women, Peace and Security agenda.”
ASEAN members have previously articulated their determination to lead on these topics in their Joint Statement on Promoting Women, Peace and Security in ASEAN.
In organising the high-level dialogue Australia demonstrates its commitment to the ASEAN process and working closely with our neighbours to foster prosperity and regional stability.
This is the first action to come from the Prime Minister’s announcement on Sunday 18 March 2018 of the outcomes of the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit.
“I look forward to welcoming the dialogue members to Melbourne, and to working with all ASEAN members to further the Women, Peace and Security agenda,” Minister O’Dwyer concluded.
