ONE NATION FALLS FOR CHEAP TRICK
SENATOR THE HON DOUG CAMERON
Pauline Hanson’s One Nation has used the cover of an empty promise to partially fund one thousand apprenticeships to justify supporting the Government’s $65 billion tax giveaway to the top end of town.
There are 140,000 fewer apprentices under the LNP
Pauline Hanson is a sell-out who has been conned by the LNP. One Nation have been bought off with an empty promise to replace less than one per cent off the apprenticeships that have been lost under the LNP government.
There have been more than 1,700 apprenticeships lost in the electorate of Dawson alone under this government.
This is an outrageous deal that will mean business will not only receive massive tax cuts, but the Government will pay apprentices’ wages.
Labor is strongly of the view that business should be committing to apprenticeships as part of their obligation to ensure the future of their business and this pathetic deal will make little or no impact on the fundamental problems facing young people seeking to gain an apprenticeship.
Skill formation is critical to the future competitiveness of the country.
This One Nation thought bubble is simply designed as an excuse to back unsustainable and unjustifiable tax cuts for business. This is another example of how One Nation capitulates to the government at the expense of the battlers they claim to represent.
This crazy deal demonstrates that One Nation and Pauline Hanson have no understanding of the operation of the apprenticeship system and the problems faced in the system.
Both Senator Hanson and the Turnbull government should be ashamed of themselves for using the apprenticeship system as a weak excuse for a rotten deal to give big business 65 billion dollars’ worth of tax cuts.
