$1 BILLION EASTER PRIVATE HEALTH HIKE

 Private health insurers are treating Australians as fools – with today’s private health hike forcing people to find almost $1 billion more in the coming year for the same level of cover.

 

That’s $1 billion less out of the pockets of families, straight towards the profits of big insurers.

 

From today, families and older Australians will pay around $200 more in 2018 for their private health cover – meaning they will be paying more than $1000 more every year than before the Liberals were elected.

 

More than 13 million Australians will see an extra hit to their budget as a result of Turnbull’s failure to stand up to the big insurers and crack down on premium rises.

 

Insurers are making record profits at the same time as families are paying more than ever for their private health. It isn’t fair and something needs to change.

 

Unfortunately all the Government has done is defend their big business mates and protect the private insurers - meaning families are put last.

 

In contrast, Labor has a plan to shift the balance back to Australians - by capping private health premiums at 2 per cent for two years and tasking the Productivity Commission with the biggest review of private health insurance in twenty years.

Labor’s plan will deliver cost-of-living relief to 13 million Australians – an average saving of $340 to the family budget.

Turnbull needs to deliver an Easter gift to Australians - stand up to the insurers, stop the hikes and take up Labor’s plan of capping premiums at 2% for two years and undertaking a productivity commission review.
