KIM BEAZLEY appointment
BILL SHORTEN MP
I join with Premier Mark McGowan in thanking Kerry Sanderson AC for her service as the 32nd Governor of Western Australia and the first woman to hold that office.
And on behalf of a delighted Labor family, I’m very pleased to congratulate Kim Beazley AC on his appointment as the next Governor of Western Australia.
Kim is a proud Western Australian and a much-loved and greatly admired Australian, a person of profound intellect, boundless good-humour and tremendous decency.
Through a quarter-century in federal parliament Kim earned the respect and affection of colleagues and opponents alike. And in six years as Australia’s ambassador to the United States of America, his insights were keenly valued in both Washington and Canberra.
It’s a credit to Kim and a measure of the love he holds for his state, that having dedicated so much of his life to the people of Western Australia, he’s eagerly stepping forward to answer the call to service once more.
Kim will bring honour to this high office and to Western Australia and I wish him all the best in his new role.
