LABOR TO DELIVER MORE JOBS AND INFRASTRUCTURE WITH NEW MIDLAND STATION AND LINE EXTENSION
BILL SHORTEN MP
A Shorten Labor Government will invest $83 million to progress development of a new Midland Station and extension of the Midland train line to Bellevue, creating up to 280 local jobs and building the infrastructure the region needs to grow.

Labor knows that investing in infrastructure isn’t just about building roads and rail – it’s about investing in better lives for the community, through more jobs and increased access to health and other vital services, and less growth-limiting congestion.

That’s why a Shorten Labor Government will commit $83 million to the Midland station project and line extension.

The existing Midland station is an ageing facility that needs redevelopment to keep pace with the growing needs of the area, including improving access to the St John of God Midland Hospital and minimising existing traffic congestion.

The extension of the rail line to Bellevue will improve public transport access and better connect the Swan region to the city – encouraging development in the region and making it easier, and quicker, for locals to access the services they need.

Labor’s investment will help kick start construction on the project, including early works and finalising the locations of both the new Midland and Bellevue stations.

These projects will be undertaken in partnership with the McGowan Labor Government and builds on Federal Labor’s $700 million commitment to the Morley-Ellenbrook METRONET line – a project that will create thousands of jobs and ease congestion through Perth’s north-east.
Today’s $83 million investment is part of Labor’s $1.6 billion Fair Share for WA Fund that was announced to bring WA's GST share up to the equivalent of a 70 cent floor.
Western Australia does not get its fair share from Turnbull – with the Liberals failing to do anything to address concerns about GST relativities.

Instead of giving multinationals and millionaires big tax handouts, Labor is prioritising more infrastructure and more jobs for WA, and investing in projects that will make a real difference to the lives of West Australians now and in the future.
