MALCOLM TURNBULL’S CUTS PUT AUSTRALIA’S EDUCATION EXPORTS AT RISK
TANYA PLIBERSEK MP
Labor welcomes news today that international student numbers are strong.
Education is one of Australia’s biggest exports. It’s our biggest non-mining export. It’s worth around $30 billion a year to the Australian economy.
Strong international student numbers aren’t just good for educators. During their stay, international students spend money with Australian businesses, big and small.
Many international students return home as ambassadors for Australia, after enjoying a world class education, and our famous way of life.
But income from international student fees should not replace proper government investment in education.
Malcolm Turnbull is putting the international reputation of Australia’s schools, TAFEs, and unis at risk with his massive cuts.
Mr Turnbull is ripping billions of dollars from education to give tax cuts to big business and millionaires.
His priorities are all wrong.
