MALCOLM TURNBULL’S CUTS WILL DROP UNI AND TAFE ENROLMENTS BY 490,000
THE HON TANYA PLIBERSEK MP
Malcolm Turnbull’s massive funding cuts will send uni and TAFE enrolments into ‘free fall’, new research has found.
The study, conducted by the Mitchell Institute, shows the number of students studying at uni or TAFE in Australia will plummet by about 490,000 over the next fifteen years.
This will exacerbate skills shortages, poverty, and crime, the research warns.
By 2020, two out of three jobs in Australia will require a post-secondary qualification. So the Liberals should be investing in uni and TAFE, not inflicting cuts.
Mr Turnbull’s cuts are not just bad for the Australians who will miss out on the opportunity of an education at uni or TAFE, they are an act of economic vandalism.
Labor wants Australia to be country with a strong economy, and secure, decently paid jobs. That’s why, unlike the Liberals, we will invest in education.
Malcolm Turnbull’s make or break Budget is just around the corner.
He must use that Budget to reverse his damaging cuts to unis and TAFE.
At the same time as Mr Turnbull is cutting around $5 billion from uni and TAFE and he’s making life easier for big business and millionaires by giving them a $65 billion tax handout.
Malcolm Turnbull thinks looking after his mates at the top end of town is more important than giving Australians the opportunity to go to uni or TAFE.
Mr Turnbull is giving taxpayers’ money to big business and millionaires instead of properly funding education.
