POLLUTION RISES AS THE GOVERNMENT GIVES UP
Mark Butler MP
For the third consecutive year, the Turnbull Government have overseen an increase in Australia’s pollution levels.
Over the last year pollution levels have risen by 1.5 per cent – with the seasonally adjusted data showing emissions jumped by 0.83 per cent in just the last quarter alone.
Yet, just last week, Malcolm Turnbull’s government delivered a Budget which has no policy to drive down pollution and combat climate change.
Acting on climate change is not a priority - it is not even on the agenda - for this out of touch government.
Malcolm Turnbull, the Prime Minister who once said he didn’t want to lead a Liberal Party that didn’t feel as strongly about climate change as he did, is now the Prime Minister who has seen continuous pollution rises under his leadership.
You simply can’t trust the Liberals to take action on climate change. With no policy there is no way they will meet their already weak emissions reduction target of 26-28 per cent by 2030.
Malcolm Turnbull has disregarded the future of young Australians in favour of the hard right climate deniers in his party room.
Tackling climate change is a Labor priority. It is our promise to young Australians – 50 per cent renewables by 2030, 45 per cent cut in emissions by 2030, and net zero emissions by 2050.
