Australia’s food safety a high priority
Senator the Hon Bridget McKenzie
The Australia and New Zealand Ministerial Forum on Food Regulation will today meet to discuss a range of measures aimed at ensuring a safe and healthy food supply for Australia and New Zealand.
The Minister for Rural Health and Chair of the Forum, Senator Bridget McKenzie, said the Forum provides an opportunity to review food safety measures and discuss ways the systems could be strengthened.
“Considering recent food-related incidences in Australia, it is vital we continually reassess and enhance the food safety practices right through the food chain process,” Minister McKenzie said.
“At the end of the day, we have a responsibility to make sure consumers have access to safe and healthy products when they do their shopping.
“The Australian and New Zealand economies benefit greatly from maintaining a rigorous food safety system which enhances our reputation for providing safe food.
“However, we must remain vigilant, so we will continue to work on making sure we have in place a strong, robust and agile food regulatory system.”
