ENERGY CRISIS “UNACCEPTABLE AND UNSUSTAINABLE”
MARK BUTLER MP
Australian households and businesses have endured Malcolm Turnbull’s energy crisis, which has resulted in skyrocketing electricity and gas prices.
Now the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) has called Malcolm Turnbull’s electricity sector mess “unacceptable and unsustainable.”
Under Malcolm Turnbull, households have seen their energy bills rise by up to $630 just in the past year.
The ACCC report is the culmination of Malcolm Turnbull’s failures to produce an energy policy that his party room will allow him to tick off on.
Malcolm Turnbull doesn’t have the strength to tackle reforming the national electricity market, like the ACCC recommends, he can’t even get his own policy through his Party Room.
The Coalition is too divided to put in place the policy certainty needed for investment – which has been a key driver of higher power prices.
Labor will study the ACCC’s recommendations but what is clear is that Malcolm Turnbull has had two years to bring an end to his energy crisis and, in the meantime, Australian households and businesses have been left to pay up for his mess.
Only Labor has a vision to end the energy crisis and transition to a clean energy future, it’s time Malcolm Turnbull got out of the way.
