TURNBULL’S $17 BILLION HANDOUT TO THE BIG BANKS
CLARE O’NEIL MP
The Liberals’ Braddon candidate has repeatedly refused to justify why the Turnbull Government wants to give a $17 billion handout to the four big banks.
Former banker Brett Whiteley was asked three times today at a candidate forum why Malcolm Turnbull was gifting so much money to the big banks at the centre of the rorts and ripoffs exposed in the banking Royal Commission.
QUESTIONER: “How come the Coalition is giving all this money to the banks?”
TASMANIAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY CEO MICHAEL BAILEY: "The question is around tax cuts to banks or big businesses generally. The big business tax cut, Brett?"
BRETT WHITELEY: "I heard banks. I'm happy to discuss that and I want to come to that but I would like to take this opportunity publically to give Justine an opportunity to explain to all of us in the room how we've come to this figure of $17 billion. That I, as a banker, and Malcolm as a banker apparently are supporting....
BAILEY: "Back to the question?"
WHITELEY: "I'd like to hear that first before I answer."
BAILEY: "I think if we can answer the question first ..."
WHITELEY: "I think it's important to understand what the Labor Party are saying about $17 billion. I will respond, but I'd like to hear a response to this."
Brett Whiteley voted on six occasions against a banking Royal Commission.
He has a track record when it comes to running a protection racket for the big banks and today’s efforts show that hasn’t changed.
This Saturday the voters of Braddon have a clear choice: vote for Justine Keay and Labor to properly fund our hospitals rather than Brett Whiteley’s $17 billion handout to the big banks.
