MORRISON ABANDONS FINANCIAL SERVICES
CLARE O’NEIL MP
Less than 48 hours into the Scott Morrison Government, and already Australia has lost a dedicated Financial Services Minister.
It is a critical time in the financial services sector. The Banking Royal Commission provides a once in a generation opportunity to create more fairness in an industry that affects every single Australian. It is beyond belief that Scott Morrison would leave Australians without a dedicated financial services minister in the middle of the Royal Commission.
Scott Morrison and the Liberals always have been – and always will be – on the side of the big banks.
Nobody fought harder than Scott Morrison to keep banking misconduct secret.
For 600 days, Scott Morrison and the Liberals fought tooth and nail to prevent a Royal Commission. Scott Morrison voted 26 times against setting up a Royal Commission. And as Treasurer, he was the loudest voice against the Royal Commission, describing it as a “populist whinge”, a “QC’s complaints desk” and a “reckless distraction”.
Now, as Prime Minister, Scott Morrison has signalled that he and his Government have no intention of implementing the Royal Commission’s recommendations.
Only Labor can be trusted to stand up for Aussie customers and businesses by cracking down on misconduct in the financial services sector.
