New explosive leaked emails show that Peter Dutton’s ministerial intervention to stop an au pair from being deported was anything but routine.
On radio this morning, Peter Dutton proudly stood by his decision to intervene and grant a visa.
“Now I’ve got lots of enemies in the media running around at the moment trying to get square for recent events... I make decisions on the merits of these cases, that’s exactly what I’ve done, and I stand by the decision.”

Leaked emails which have emerged since that interview leave many questions about Peter Dutton’s ministerial intervention unanswered.

The Australian Border Force advised against the Minister granting the visa… but he granted a visa anyway. Why did the Peter Dutton act against Border Force’s advice?
Dutton was warned the individual was "previously counselled" in May 2015 about breaching visa conditions… but he granted a visa anyway. Why did Dutton undermine the integrity of Australia’s visa system?
Peter Dutton was warned that there was “financial liability” associated with his intervention… but he granted a visa anyway. Why did Dutton expose the Australian taxpayer to this financial risk?
As each day goes by, there are more serious questions Peter Dutton needs to answer about the use of his ministerial powers
The Senate Standing Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs will investigate these matters in the Senate Inquiry into Allegations concerning the inappropriate exercise of ministerial powers, with respect to the visa status of au pairs, and related matters.
It’s time Scott Morrison stepped in to ensure Peter Dutton immediately and fully explains his actions to the Australian people.
