Draft Basin Plan report released
David Littleproud MP
Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources David Littleproud welcomed the Productivity Commission’s draft report—Murray-Darling Basin Plan: Five-year assessment—on Basin Plan implementation.
“The Commission acknowledges we have recovered the vast majority of water required under the Basin Plan Sustainable Diversion Limit,” Minister Littleproud said.
“We’ve already recovered the necessary water in 22 of 28 water catchments.
“I’ve always said the Plan needs compliance to have integrity.
“That’s why I appointed former AFP boss Mick Keelty the tough cop on the beat in the basin – the Northern Basin Commissioner.
“This is a significant step forward on compliance from the federal perspective.
“I’ll continue on my path of implementing the Basin Plan on time and in full, as agreed by both sides of politics.”
The Productivity Commission’s draft report is open for public consultation and its final report will be completed by the end of 2018.
