LABOR URGES GOVERNMENT TO REFRAIN
TERRI BUTLER MP
ACOSS’s report into people’s experiences with jobactive raises concerns about the program, Terri Butler said.
“Labor has previously called on the government to commit to refraining from entering into new jobactive contracts before the election,” Terri Butler said.
“This report should give the Minister pause.
“Labour market programs must have as their central aim helping people to get decent, secure work.
“The ACOSS report suggests that the very people who are supposed to benefit from jobactive are finding it frustrating and unsatisfactory.
“Before new contracts are signed, the government of the day, whether Labor or Coalition, must properly consider this report, the internal review, and the outcomes of the Senate Inquiry, with a view to making any necessary improvements.
“That demands that no premature contracting occur,” she said.
