NATIONAL CARERS WEEK
THE HON. LINDA BURNEY MP
Labor would like to take this opportunity during National Carers Week to thank all carers and acknowledge the invaluable role that they play in supporting our friends, families and loved ones.
The theme this year is Why We Care. It’s an opportunity for all carers to share their story and help grow the voice of the carer community.
Over 2.7 million carers across Australia provide support valued at over $165 million per day to the Australian economy.
Unfortunately, carers all too often experience difficulties finding employment, education or community engagement opportunities that fit with their caring responsibilities.
“It’s our role to build an inclusive society that acknowledges and supports the role of carers” said Shadow Minister for Families and Social Services, Linda Burney. “Australia wouldn’t be the country that it is today, without the hard work of carers all over the country”.
“I’d like to acknowledge the hard work of Carers Australia who organise this initiative” said Senator Carol Brown, Shadow Minister for Disability and Carers.
“The role of carers can often be even more challenging than that of full-time work”.
