INVICTUS GAMES OPEN
Senator the Hon. Bridget McKenzie
Minister for Sport, Senator The Hon Bridget McKenzie has welcomed the opening of the Invictus Games in Sydney, with seventy two proud Australian current and former military personnel ready to compete in eleven sports over the next eight days

Founded in 2014 by His Royal Highness, the Duke of Sussex, the Invictus Games brings together around five hundred competitors from eighteen nations around the world to help recognise the role sport plays in rehabilitation.

“Australia is incredibly proud to be hosting the Invictus Games and it is the perfect opportunity to recognise and thank all participants for their service for their respective countries,” Minister McKenzie said.

“These athletes have served their countries with pride as part of the military, now they have the chance to represent their countries with the same pride on the sporting field.

The Invictus Games are the only international adaptive sporting event for wounded, ill and injured active duty and veteran service members.

“Sport can give us so many highs and lows but it is also important to recognise the healing power that sport has to help aid healing and recovery,” Minister McKenzie said.

“I wish all competitors the best of luck over course of the competition and welcome all families and friends supporting the athletes to Sydney.”
