THREATS OF PENALTY RATE CUTS TO SPREAD

Under Morrison and his Liberals, more Australian workers are facing potential pay cuts as their penalty rates come under threat.

Clubs Australia will argue in the Fair Work Commission this week for the Clubs award to be merged into the Hospitality award, resulting in a cut to Clubs workers’ penalty rates

 

Today in Gymea, in Scott Morrison’s own electorate, clubs workers and the President of Tradies Gymea, Dennis McHugh, argued against workers receiving a pay cut. They know that penalty rates are not a luxury, they are what pays the bills and puts food on the table.

Tradies Gymea is one of more than 150 clubs who have written to the Fair Work Commission saying they do not support a cut to penalty rates.

 

Labor has consistently warned of the risk that the cuts to penalty rates under the retail hospitality, fast food, restaurant and pharmacy awards will spread to other workers.

 

Make no mistake, the Liberals support cuts to penalty rates. Scott Morrison and his Liberals voted 8 times to support cuts to penalty rates.

When wages growth has hit record lows, there could not be a worse time to cut the wages of hard working Australians.

If elected a Shorten Labor Government will, in our first 100 days, restore penalty rates and legislate so they can never be cut again. 

 

Australians deserve a fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work.
