AMBASSADOR TO MONGOLIA
SENATOR THE HON MARISE PAYNE
Today I announce the appointment of Mr David Vosen as Australia’s next Ambassador to Mongolia.
Australia and Mongolia enjoy a warm and constructive relationship underpinned by strong people-to-people and business links. We share common values and interests in democracy, respect for the international rules-based order, and open market economies.

Australia and Mongolia work in partnership in many fields, including education, mining, defence, disaster risk reduction and public health.  Mongolia is an increasingly popular destination for Australian visitors, New Colombo Plan students and Australian volunteers. Currently over 7,000 Mongolian students are studying in Australia, including 56 under the Australia Awards program.

Mr Vosen is a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and was most recently Director, North Korea Section. He has previously served overseas as Deputy Head of Mission, Australian Embassy, Vientiane; and Counsellor, Australian High Commission, Port Moresby. In Australia, he has served as Director, Afghanistan and Iraq Branch, AusAID; and also in  various positions in the Departments of Defence and Finance.

Mr Vosen holds a Master of Public Policy, Australian National University; a Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Arts, Deakin University; and post graduate qualifications in financial planning.
I thank our first resident Ambassador Mr John Langtry for his contributions to advancing Australia’s interests in Mongolia since 2015.
