MORRISON’S CLIMATE AND ENERGY POLICIES ARE INADEQUATE

Today’s Australian Climate Policy Survey from the Carbon Market Institute vindicates just how out of touch the Morrison Government is with handling the challenge of Australia’s climate and energy transition.

The survey of Australian business and industry leaders revealed an overwhelming consensus, 92 per cent of respondents, agreeing that Scott Morrison’s current national climate and energy policies are insufficient to drive the emissions reductions needed to meet our Paris targets by 2030.

As the survey says, “Australian business and industry overwhelmingly agree that current climate and energy policies are inadequate and will not drive Australia’s emissions reductions required under our Paris Agreement commitments.”

With 82 per cent of business leaders also agreeing that Australia should set an economy wide net zero emissions target for 2050 – in line with Labor policy.

Yetinstead of a plan to deal with Australia’s rising carbon pollution, the Liberals’ only plan is to spend of billions of taxpayers’ dollars on expensive new coal-fired power stations.

The Government’s own data showsunder Scott Morrison’s hopeless climate change policies, carbon pollution will continue to rise all the way to 2030 (as far as the projections go).

Under the Liberals’ energy crisis, all Australians can expect is higher power prices, more pollution and more blackouts.

Under Labor’s Fair Go Action Plan, a Shorten Labor Government will invest in cheaper, cleaner energy and deliver 50 per cent of power from renewables by 2030. And we will give Australian businesses leaders the policy certainty needed to tackle climate change with our 45 per cent emissions reduction target by 2030 (on 2005 baseline).
