Minister for Justice Michael Keenan and New South Wales Minister for Emergency Services Troy Grant today announced the activation of a $2.1 million Community Recovery Fund to further support communities affected by the North Coast Floods that occurred from 28 March 2017.

Minister Keenan said the assistance is being provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA).

"Many communities across the North Coast of NSW are still dealing with the impacts of the March floods and it has become clear that further support is needed to help with their recovery," Mr Keenan said.

"This is why the Australian and NSW governments are rolling out a significant funding package for additional recovery initiatives across the North Coast region."

Minister Grant said many people are struggling financially and emotionally in the aftermath of the disaster.

"A significant component of the Community Recovery Fund will go to mental health support and community engagement initiatives to help people affected by the floods get back on their feet," Mr Grant said.

"There is also funding to support the recovery of the local economy, including for a tourism and marketing campaign to let people know the region is open for business again."

The $2.1 million Community Recovery Fund is in addition to the range of assistance that is already available under the NDRRA to help affected individuals, communities, small businesses, primary producers and local councils with their recovery.
