LABOR TO DELIVER NEW $5 MILLION SCHOOL HALL

Strathfield Girls High will get a brand new $5 million school hall as part of a joint plan from Federal and NSW Labor.
Federal Labor and NSW Labor will work together to deliver the new hall, contributing $2.5 million each.
The Deputy Federal Labor Leader, Tanya Plibersek, said the new hall will fit all 1100 Strathfield Girls students and will double as a performance space for music, dance, and drama.
“The school’s P&C has been campaigning for a new hall for five years. The P&C started a petition that now has over 1000 signatures in support.
“Over the years, population growth in the local area has seen a big increase in enrolments at Strathfield Girls.
“Strathfield Girls outgrew its small 40 year old hall long ago – it only accommodates 400 students,” Ms Plibersek said.
NSW Labor Leader Michael Daley said that Labor governments would always work together to deliver better schools across NSW.
“You can always trust Labor to fight for better schools across NSW because we know how important it is that all students in NSW, no matter where they come from, get a quality education.
“I’m proud to stand with the members of Strathfield Girls High P&C. A Daley Labor Government will fund schools and hospitals across NSW, not spend $2.2 billion on Sydney stadiums.”
NSW Shadow Education Minister Jihad Dib said “This is what happens when Labor works together. Strathfield Girls will have a 21st century hall that’s fit for purpose for educational and extracurricular activities.”
NSW Labor Member for Strathfield Jodi McKay said she had been working with the community to deliver a new hall for Strathfield Girls High since 2015.
“I want to congratulate the P&C and students of Strathfield Girls High on their campaign that’s amassed over 1000 signatures.
“NSW and Federal Labor have listened to the community in Strathfield and will work together to build a better hall for Strathfield Girls.”
Labor’s candidate for the federal seat of Reid, Sam Crosby, said in 2017 Strathfield Girls was forced to cancel its Presentation Day ceremony because their school hall was not big enough.
“At other times, Strathfield Girls has been forced to use the hall of the nearby Marie Bashir Primary School to hold exams and assemblies,” Mr Crosby said.
Neighbouring Homebush Boys High will also be able to use the new hall at Strathfield Girls.
