Climate adaptation in agriculture moves forward
David Littleproud MP
Minister for Agriculture David Littleproud has welcomed an update on climate adaptation work to the Agriculture Ministers Meeting in Adelaide today.
The update came from the Agriculture Senior Officials Committee, who will report back in full in May, after Minister Littleproud called for a nationally coordinated approach to climate adaptation after his first meeting as Minister in February 2018.
The update included information on climate scenarios including potential regional variations, current work on adaptation across the nation and also identified risks and opportunities in agriculture.
“I’m pleased to see progress on this issue and receive an update today,” Minister Littleproud said.
“It’s important we have a national approach to climate adaptation and that each state knows what the other is doing.
“Sharing information and knowledge is key.
“Farm industries are making good efforts in this space. Meat and Livestock Australia aims to be carbon neutral by 2030 - they’re ahead of the curve.
“As climate changes it’s important we give farmers the best tools and information possible to cope with it.”
