LABOR WILL IMPROVE SERVICES IN WAKEFIELD

A Shorten Labor Government will commit funding for 50 full time Department of Human Services jobs in Wakefield, injecting $3.6 million into the local economy and improving service delivery for the region.
These 50 new jobs will be based permanently in the Northern suburbs with a desired site at the new Northern CBD https://www.playford.sa.gov.au/development/next-great-city
These new jobs will include local service delivery and call centre roles and will reduce waiting and processing times for Medicare and Centrelink.
Centrelink is in crisis under the Morrison Government. It's under staffed and under resourced.
The Abbott-Turnbull-Morrison Government has cut and outsourced over 2,700 staff from DHS and Centrelink.
These cuts have coincided with increased Centrelink phone wait times, and income support recipients being pushed to the edge of poverty waiting months for their payments.
In Wakefield there are over 18,000 age pensioners, 7000 recipients of Carers Allowance, over 9000 recipients of a Disability Support Pension, 16,000 recipients of Family Tax Benefits and nearly 3,000 young people receiving support whilst undertaking study or an apprenticeship. All of these recipients will benefit from the increased support as a result of these jobs.
Labor is focused on more full time, well-paid jobs and services for the North – we’re listening to the local community and making the investments needed to build a stronger local economy and create genuine job opportunities.
