George Brandis Cabinet leaks

MURRAY WATT: This morning’s Brisbane Courier Mail has an incredible front page story with a serious Cabinet leak against Attorney General George Brandis. The story on the front page of the Courier Mail reveals that one of his own Ministers has leaked the fact that Attorney General George Brandis opposed tougher laws to crack down on paedophiles when the matter was considered by Cabinet back in May.

It’s an extraordinary admission that an Attorney General would oppose those laws, but what’s even more amazing is that one of his own Cabinet colleagues has leaked this to the media and the story has been confirmed by at least two more Ministers after the original leak.

Now, it’s not very clear exactly who the source of this leak was, but I’ll leave it for you to work out which senior Turnbull Cabinet Minister is a Queenslander, not long ago did over George Brandis when it came to national security matters and stole all of his portfolio off him, and parades himself around as being tougher than anyone on immigration and crime matters. So I’ll leave it for you to work out who the source of that leak might be.

But this is not the only front page we’ve seen today where you’ve got Turnbull Government Ministers and former Ministers leaking on each other. This is a Government that’s in complete disarray. It’s a Government that’s eating itself alive and everyday Australians are the ones who are missing out by not getting their real concerns looked at. Instead, this Government is distracted by constant infighting. Thank you.
