$500,000 BREAKFAST POINT PRECINCT GRANT

A Shorten Labor Government will support the Breakfast Point Community Association’s Breakfast Point Solar Initiative with a $500,000 grant, to deliver more renewable energy and help meet the Canada Bay Council’s target of 30 per cent renewable energy by 2030.
In 2011 only 1 per cent of Canada Bay Council’s electricity was supplied via renewable sources. This will increase to 13 per cent with investments in renewable energy at The Connection in Rhodes, and new solar arrays at the water treatment plant, Concord Library, Concord Community Centre and Depot.
This investment in renewable energy has seen a growth of 34 per cent in solar power exported to the grid and given local government additional income to meet the priorities of the community, as well as cutting carbon pollution.
Labor wants to see this progress continue with more investment in renewables.
That is why a Shorten Labor Government will contribute $500,000 to deliver a multi-purpose car park shading structure, using solar panels as roof paneling, to provide the Breakfast Point Community with renewable and affordable energy.
This support will deliver half the project cost, with the remaining cost being delivered by the community through the Breakfast Point Community Association.
Shadow Minister for Climate Change and Energy Mark Butler said, “This is another great example of communities taking control of their energy future by investing in community renewable projects.
“Those who still argue against Australia’s renewable energy future are not only arguing against global trends, experts and the need to tackle climate change, they are arguing against the clear wishes of communities all across Australia, including in Reid.”
Sam Crosby, the Labor Candidate for the seat of Reid said “This is a great project and I’m proud that a Shorten Labor Government will help deliver it.
“Our community supports renewables, we have a local renewable energy target and with a Shorten Labor government, we’ll get the national support to deliver a clean and affordable renewable energy future.”
