LABOR WILL TRANSFORM KATHERINE POOL

A Shorten Labor Government will invest $5 million to transform the 30-year-old Katherine Pool.

Making the commitment in Katherine today, the Deputy Labor Leader, Tanya Plibersek, said the funding will build a new waterpark and lagoon at Katherine Pool. 

“There will be a new kids pool, a toddler play pool, and a separate waterplay area for older children,” Ms Plibersek said.

“This major upgrade will also include a new sand floor lagoon.

“The existing lap pool will be renovated, and there’ll be BBQ areas and extra shadesails – so families can enjoy Katherine Pool all year round.  

“It will be a relaxing oasis in the Katherine Region.

“Warren Snowdon has fought hard to secure funding for Katherine Pool because he knows how important this project is for locals.

“The only way to ensure Katherine Pool gets a new waterpark and lagoon is to vote for Warren Snowdon and Labor.

“Labor can afford to make terrific investments such as this because unlike the Liberals we are not giving big tax loopholes to the top end of town,” Ms Plibersek said.

Labor’s Member for Lingiari, Warren Snowdon, said the new waterpark and lagoon was great news for young people in Katherine.

 

“About 20 per cent of Katherine residents are younger than 19,” Mr Snowdon said. 

 

“The new waterpark and lagoon at Katherine Pool will give young people a safe place to catch up and have fun.

 

“I will work closely with the Katherine Town Council to deliver this important upgrade,” Mr Snowdon said. 

 

Today’s commitment is for an extra $4.4 million of funding, on top of the $600,000 announced by Federal Labor just a few weeks ago.  

 

This election is a choice between Labor’s plan for better community facilities, or bigger tax loopholes for the top end of town under the Liberals.
