GREENS PORT ARTHUR CONSPIRACY THEORIST MUST BE SACKED
MARK DREYFUS QC MP
Shocking comments have emerged today from a Greens candidate denying that the horrible 1996 Port Arthur massacre – in which 35 people were killed – ever happened.

People who believe in these sorts of conspiracy theories have no place in Australian public life and certainly not in our politics – and not in a political party which pretends to represent mainstream Australia.

When similar comments emerged from Pauline Hanson, the Greens were quick to condemn them.

The Greens leader, Richard Di Natale, said Ms Hanson’s comments were:

Disgraceful. And it’s just so disrespectful to the many victims of the
Port Arthur massacre.
Tasmanian Greens Senator Nick McKim, responding to another conspiracy theorist’s comments in 2017, said:

They will cause significant hurt to a lot of people who were so deeply impacted by the tragic shooting at Port Arthur.
Just what is going on inside the Greens? How can they not have sacked this candidate as soon as his comments emerged? An apology is not enough. Some basic standards have to be enforced.

The Greens are a party of hypocrites. They say one thing when it suits them, but when they are put to the test, they fail to uphold their values.

Keeping this man on as a candidate is an insult to the memory of all those who died in 1996. Mr Di Natale must take action today.
