OUTSTANDING SUPPORT OF DEFENCE RESERVISTS
Darren Chester MP
LEADING employers across Australia have been recognised for their continued support to Australian Defence Force Reservists at the annual Defence Reserves Support Council National Employer Support Awards ceremony, held in Canberra.
Minister for Veterans and Defence Personnel, the Hon Darren Chester MP, said the awards showcased those employers that actively supported their Reservists in the workplace, allowing them to contribute meaningfully to both their civilian and military roles.
“Across Australia, we have over 25 000 active Reservists who are a vital capability to the success of the Australian Defence Force,” Mr Chester said.
“The support of employers, such as the ones recognised here tonight, enables our Reservists to be released from their civilian jobs to perform a variety of roles, from medical officers to infantry, across the three Services within the Australian Defence Force.
“Through their Reserve service, our Reservists gain skills and knowledge that they can transfer back into their civilian workplaces, providing a direct benefit to both the workplace and themselves as employees.”
Mr Chester said all businesses across Australia that support Reservists should be commended for the support they provide to their employees.
“Our Reservists are a highly-skilled, dynamic and disciplined workforce, whose service to our country is made possible by the support of employers,” Mr Chester said.
“I commend both the awards winners and nominees here this evening for your continued support of your Reservists, and a wider commitment to the future of Australia.”
