DEAL OR NO DEAL TO FIX TASMANIA’S HOUSING CRISIS?
JASON CLARE MP
Last night the Finance Minister Mathias Cormann told the Senate that the housing crisis in Tasmania would be fixed as part of Senator Lambie’s support for the Government’s tax legislation:
“… we have agreed over the next six to eight weeks, or thereabouts, that we’ll work this issue through...”

Less than 24 hours later the Treasurer was asked on 3AW if the Government had done a deal to fix the housing crisis in Tasmania and he dodged the question saying:
“We convinced Jacqui Lambie to support the tax cuts on its merits.”

The Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton was asked the same question this morning on the Today Show and also refused to answer the question.
Is there a deal or not to fix Tasmania’s housing crisis?
If there is a deal it will be welcome news to the thousands of Tasmanians struggling to put a roof over their heads and the Government should release the details.
20 per cent more Tasmanians are accessing homelessness and crisis housing services than two years ago.
Tasmania also has the highest rental stress in the country.
Action is needed to fix this – sooner rather than later.
