GOVERNMENT MUST ACT ON ANTI DUMPING
BRENDAN O’CONNOR MP
Labor calls on the Government to stop sitting on their hands when it comes to anti-dumping laws, and show some leadership to deal with the issue at today’s International Trade Remedies Forum.

The Forum, which is a Labor initiative, is an opportunity for Minister Andrews to finally outline a policy to improve Australia’s anti dumping system.

An important function of the forum is to hear from Australian manufacturing stakeholders and their concerns should be listened to and not ignored.

Concerns have been raised over an Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) paper, which calls for dumping to be subject to a public interest test. This same suggestion was rejected by Labor in government, as it would make it harder to apply remedies when dumping is proven and a business is suffering.

Australian manufacturing jobs depend upon strong anti-dumping laws and the government must ensure Australia has a tough and well resourced Anti Dumping Commission.

Strong anti dumping laws, which prevent Australia becoming a dumping ground for below cost foreign goods, help to bolster Australian products, Australian jobs and Australian industry.

Bipartisan support is needed to defend Australian companies and workers from unfair trade practices.
