GRATTAN REPORT HIGHLIGHTS UNANSWERED QUESTIONS
CHRIS BOWEN MP
The Grattan Institute report today titled ‘The history and purposes of private health insurance’ highlights the need for the Liberals to act to improve private health insurance in Australia.
Describing the completed inquiries in the duration of the Abbott-Turnbull-Morrison Government, the report states: “Each inquiry identifies issues but falls short of identifying long-run solutions to the escalating tensions between the public and private sectors”.
Labor took to the 2019 election the commitment of a Productivity Commission inquiry into the private health system, including product design, out-of-pocket costs, competitiveness, transparency, and the process of setting premiums.
The Morrison Government should adopt the commitment for the Productivity Commission inquiry on the private health system to start resolving these questions.
Under this Liberal Government costs have never been higher and waiting times have never been longer for health services in Australia.
